Dozens of victims of the Los Angeles area fires have turned to a San Diego law firm for assistance in recovering from their devastating losses.
Gerald Singleton, one of the nation’s top lawyers for fire-related lawsuits, said his firm already has dozens of clients.
Over the last two decades, his firm has represented 26,000 victims, including those affected by the devastating wildfires in Hawaii.
“What we do is sue for the gap between what your insurance provides and what your actual losses are,” he told me.
“We have retired law enforcement officers and firefighters, as well as cause and origin investigators. So they’ll be on the ground. They will not interfere, but they will get as close as possible. They’ll tell us whether this was caused by a utility or another defendant who could face a lawsuit.”
While the cause of the fires in greater Los Angeles is being investigated, Singleton said there are steps people in Southern California can take to protect themselves.
He advised families to have a “go-bag” containing clothing and important documents such as passports and fire insurance policies.
The next step is to have prescriptions, make sure pets are ready to go, and have a carrier.
He also mentioned that now is a good time to consider increasing wildfire insurance coverage if possible.
