Official Social Security accounts say that the Social Security Administration (SSA) will be closed on October 14, 2024, in honor of Columbus Day.
But they say on X’s own post, which used to be on Twitter, that if you need to do any paperwork, the SSA gives you a number of different ways to reach their services.
Services available while offices are closed
Tomorrow, Monday, October 14, the offices will not be open, but seniors and other beneficiaries can still use automated services by phone or online. These are some of the things you can do with them:
- Reviewing your benefit status: You can check the status of your application for retirement or disability insurance benefits.
- Benefit applications: Start or continue an application for benefits, such as Retirement, Disability or Medicare Insurance.
- Update personal information: If you need to update your address, phone number or direct deposit details, you can also do so online.
- View your Social Security statement: Access your work history and retirement benefit projections.
You can visit SSA.gov, the Social Security website, at any time. You can also quickly and safely do many of the same things in a branch office through your my Social Security account.

You can get to your personal information and do business from this site without leaving your house.
