The Social Security offices will be closed in December, so you should finish your paperwork early. All Social Security offices will be closed at the end of December. This is because these offices are usually closed every year on federal holidays.
The Social Security Administration (SSA) also has to follow this rule. The United States government recognizes eleven holidays. This year, Christmas Day is the last one. Every Social Security office will be closed on Wednesday, December 25 because of this.
SSA offices will also be closed on January 1, 2025, which is the first holiday of the new year for many people. Because of this, we would like to give you a full list of the holidays in 2025. These are the days when everywhere will be closed.

Social Security payments to go up in 2025: These are the new amounts
SSA is also planning to raise monthly benefits for disabled people in the US. These benefits include Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI).
The cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) means that people who get Social Security or SSI will get more money in 2025. The SSA says that benefits will go up by 2.5% and that the average payments will look like this next year:
- All retired workers: from $1,927 to $1,976
- Elderly couples where both receive Social Security benefits: $3,014 to $3,089
- Widowed mother and two children: $3,669 to $3,761
- Elderly widow(er): from $1,788 to $1,832
- Disabled worker, spouse, and one or more children: from $2,757 to $2,826
- All disabled workers: from $1,542 to $1,580
The most a person can get each month from Supplemental Security Income (SSI), on the other hand, is $967 for an eligible person, $1,450 for an eligible person and an eligible spouse, and $484 for an essential person.
The most that retirees will be able to access will go up by 2025, but this has nothing to do with the COLA increase. The official SSA payment schedule says that by 2025, the biggest benefit at age 62 will be $2,831, at age 65 it will be $3,374, at age 66 it will be $3,795; at age 67 it will be $4,043; and at age 70 it will be $5,108.
Because Social Security benefits are calculated for each person individually, the exact amount sent is up to each recipient. Add 2.5% to your current benefits to get an idea of how much you will get next year.
Watch for letters from the Social Security Administration. This month, people will get a letter or an email from My Social Security account telling them their new amount.
