A company in Oregon called BrucePac is recalling almost 10 million pounds of meat and poultry products because the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) found listeria bacteria in them during routine tests.
The company’s facility in Durant, Oklahoma, processed the goods that were harmed. They include about 5,000 tons of ready-to-eat foods like grilled chicken breast strips.
Seventy different kinds of meat and poultry were recalled. They were made between June 19, 2024, and October 8, 2024, and sent to restaurants, food service providers, and other places across the country.
The “best-by” dates for these things are from June 19, 2025, to October 8, 2025. Officials have told people and businesses to check their fridges and freezers for food that should be thrown away right away.
There have been no proven cases of illness linked to this recall, but the USDA is worried that some products may still be on the market.
Listeria is a very dangerous bacterial infection that can make people very sick, especially older adults, pregnant women, and people whose immune systems are not strong enough. Fever, aches and pains in the muscles, and tiredness are some of the symptoms.
In some cases, more serious problems like stiff neck, confusion, and losing your balance can happen. Infections can happen anywhere from a few days to ten weeks after eating food that was infected.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about 1,600 people in the U.S. get listeria every year, and about 260 of them die.
People who have any of the recalled goods should throw them away right away to avoid getting sick.
