Who does Tennessee miss from the SEC schedule?
Auburn, LSU, Missouri, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Texas, Texas A&M
Given that the Georgia and Oklahoma games are at home, the Vols don’t have much of a problem in terms of missing players.
Not having to deal with Texas and Texas A&M is a benefit, and missing out on the Tigers – Auburn, LSU, and Missouri – is fine. Not having to deal with Lane Kiffin and the circus he brings to the matchup is also a positive.
Tennessee football schedule, the good and the bad
The good news is that Tennessee’s seven missing teams are all solid. That means it will play Arkansas, Kentucky, and Vanderbilt, all of which must be wins. Georgia is on the schedule as the SEC opener, but at least it is in Knoxville.
After starting with Syracuse in Atlanta, three of the following four games are against teams who did not bowl before taking a week off. The second half of the season has been about as simple as it gets in the SEC.
The Bad: Georgia is on the schedule. That’s not good, and having to travel to Alabama hurts. Yes, three of the final four games are at home, but a stretch of three road games in four in SEC play will be difficult, even if two of those games are against Mississippi State and Kentucky.
Tennessee Football Schedule: Best and worst case scenarios
Best Case Scenario: The Vols beat Syracuse early on and then defeat Georgia at home. There is a loss to Alabama and a miss someplace else, such as at home versus Oklahoma or Arkansas, but everything works out to advance to the SEC Championship and another extended CFP.
Worst-case scenario: The Vols are too good to fall entirely off the map, but they lose just enough to be considered an also-ran. The Syracuse Orange outperforms the Vols in the opening, Georgia wins the SEC opener, and there’s no room for error the rest of the way – but there is plenty.
The Crimson Tide light up the cigars in Tuscaloosa, Florida wins the rivalry at home, and both Oklahoma and Arkansas provide great performances in Knoxville.
Season Prediction: (January 28) The record will most likely be better than the team’s, but hey, you are what the record says you are.
Simply assume wins over ETSU, UAB, New Mexico State, and, yes, Vanderbilt. If everything goes as planned, the Vols should beat Oklahoma and Arkansas, and if the squad is truly CFP-worthy, it should defeat Kentucky and Mississippi State on the road.
Tennessee will need at least two victories from visits to Alabama and Florida, as well as Georgia and Syracuse, to reach nine, if not ten.
The Season Prediction will be revised multiple times over the offseason.
