Who does Texas miss from the SEC schedule?
Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Missouri, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Tennessee
The Longhorns must face Georgia, and Oklahoma and Texas A&M are givens, but in terms of missing key teams, it doesn’t get much better than this. Auburn is probably the poorest of the seven teams Texas is missing, yet it will be good enough to beat almost anyone on the schedule.
If you don’t have to face Alabama, LSU, or Tennessee, you’re content.
Texas football schedule, the good and the bad
The Good: Again, there are no Alabama, LSU, or Tennessee on the schedule, and not facing Ole Miss and Missouri is significant.
Given that Kentucky and Mississippi State did not bowl last year and are beatable, the second half of the schedule isn’t too bad. Yes, there is a trip to Georgia, but that comes after a week off, and Texas A&M must travel to Austin.
The Bad: Yeah, that road trip to Georgia stinks, and starting up against Ohio State won’t be nice. Given the season’s halfway point, requesting a divide between the two is essential.
Florida, Oklahoma, Kentucky, and Mississippi State may not be heavyweights, but they are all in a row and being played somewhere other than Austin. The Longhorns will go the entire month of October without playing at home.
Texas Football Schedule: Best and worst case scenarios
Best Case Scenario: It defeated defending national champion Michigan at Michigan in 2024, and it will do the same at Ohio State this time. when then there’s the run up to that tough October, when the midsection isn’t an issue.
The Longhorns defeat Florida and Oklahoma on their way to an unblemished – or, at least, 8-1 – start before facing Georgia. They defeated Arkansas and Texas A&M on their way to the SEC Championship.
Worst-case scenario: Texas suffers significant loses in the beginning, middle, and end. It loses to Ohio State in its first game, fails to beat Oklahoma, and is defeated at home by Texas A&M. With a loss to Georgia, this isn’t a national title run, but rather a peculiar season with only eight wins.
Season Prediction: (January 29) There will be two or more losses. Overall, the calendar isn’t terrible, but the key dates are large. At Ohio State, Oklahoma, Georgia, and Texas A&M, the Longhorns will lose at least one of those games, and there will be another misfire somewhere else.
Between the huge four dates and the trip to Florida, Texas will be in the 10-2/9-3 range, depending on how Ohio State’s opener goes.
The Season Prediction will be revised multiple times over the offseason.
