A teen from Texas was arrested more than three months after she reportedly shot and killed a “caring” Sonic manager during a fight over using fake money to pay for food.
Fox 4 News reports that Adiah Roberson, 17, was caught in the parking lot of a Dallas apartment complex after an operation involving several law enforcement agencies. She had been on the Texas 10 Most Wanted list since July 16 and was a wanted person.
Roberson is charged with killing Daniel Shrewsbury on July 7 while he was working the night shift at a Sonic in San Antonio.
Shrewsbury was killed just a few days before his 34th birthday. He was said to have gotten into a fight with Roberson and two other people after they tried to buy food with fake money.
The San Antonio Police Department told the news source that Shrewsbury tried to take a picture of their license plate as they left the business.
A 27-year-old suspect named Joshua Joseph was arrested in August and charged with murder. Fox 4 reported that Joseph reportedly told the Sonic manager that he would be shot while he was trying to take the picture.
Soon after, Roberson got out of the car, cops said, and opened fire on Shrewsbury before running away.
The police said Shrewsbury was dead at the scene.
Someone who was at the drive-through the night he was killed said they heard three gunshots and saw a worker leave the fast food place crying because one of her coworkers had been shot.
“While I waited in line, I talked on the phone.” I also heard what I thought was the first explosion. In July, the witness told KENS5 that they saw what it was, but they did not really think that was what it was.
“After that I heard two more gunshots, and I thought, ‘OK, something is going on here.'” I did my best to get out of there because I was scared.
After his death, Shrewsbury’s family said that he liked playing video games and spending time with his family when he was not working. He was the oldest of three children.
His younger brother, Jojo Shrewsbury, who is also suffering, said, “He was a great brother to everyone.”
In an emotional Facebook post a few days after Shrewsbury’s death, his sister Jazmin Robinson said that her brother “did not deserve to go like this” and called the suspects “cowards.”
They did not even think about his family or loved ones when they took her brother. “Ladies and gentlemen, it is a sad, sad world we live in. I never thought I would lose my brother this way,” she wrote.
“I will always love you, big brother. They took your body, but they can not take your soul. The times we spent together will always be special to me, and I will never forget what a great, hard-working brother you were.”
A government document fraud charge was also filed against Roberson.
Roberson was taken to the Dallas County jail on Tuesday and charged with murder and forgery.
Fox 4 reported that police think Robinson was moving around the state, running away from San Antonio to Austin and then landing in Dallas.
The US Marshals said that a tip helped the task force find the teen in the Dallas apartment building.
She has a $520,000 bond and will be taken to San Antonio to stand trial there. It is still not clear if she will be tried as a minor.
If a person under 18 is tried as an adult in Texas and found guilty of capital murder, Section 12.31 of the Texas Penal Code says that they will “receive an automatic life sentence with the possibility of parole after 40 years.”
