Jackie and Shadow, the Big Bear bald eagle couple whose parenting journey has been livestreamed across the world, appear to be missing one of their three eaglets who hatched this season.
A video of the nest was released on social media. On Thursday afternoon, three fledgling birds in the nest were fed by their parents.
However, as of Friday, the Big Bear Bald Eagle Live Nest Cam showed only two eaglets in Jackie and Shadow’s nest.
It is unclear what happened to the third eaglet.
“We were only able to see two chicks during the first feeding, so we are not sure what is going on,” Jenny Voisard, media and internet manager for Friends of Big Bear Valley, said in a statement. “Our view into the nest bowl is partially obstructed by snow, and there is a big part of it that we cannot see.”
Jackie lay three eggs at the end of January, according to Big Bear, and they all hatched last week.
The first hatched on March 3, the second on March 4, and the third many days later.
It is not evident which of the three birds is missing.
