A major military practice has begun in New York to prepare troops for a potential World War III.
Fears of a worldwide war have increased dramatically since the confrontation between Russia and Ukraine. Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned Western countries that WWIII may come. According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the continuing exercise includes military aircraft and staff training to replicate hypothetical threats. They are also intended to ensure that soldiers are prepared to respond if a nuclear disaster occurs “in the United States or overseas”.
Since Sunday, the public has been informed that they may see personnel openly rehearsing the drills. The exercises are scheduled to end on January 31. The FBI representative stated that the training exercise will not pose any risks to local residents. They said, “Please do not be alarmed by this activity.”
Although learning about these drills may cause some alarm, the FBI clarified that such training has been conducted twice a year countrywide since 2012. The drill’s objective is to simulate a radiological attack, allowing reaction workers to refine their skills in protecting the public and providing emergency relief. According to the Express US, the drill tries to prepare officials for future attacks while underlining that it poses no public hazard.
Russian President Vladimir Putin accused Western countries of pressuring Russia to meet its “red lines” and warned to lift all voluntary restrictions on the country’s short and medium-range missiles if the US deploys comparable arms. Some may dismiss Putin’s bluster, but ex-Soviet and Russian ambassador Nikolai Sokov cautioned at the time, “Don’t make a mistake – all of these things may mean nuclear war.”
President Vladimir Putin congratulated Trump on his inauguration last Monday. During a video conference with members of Russia’s Security Council, he stated, “We hear statements from Trump and members of his team about their desire to restore direct contacts with Russia, which were halted through no fault of ours by the outgoing administration.”
He also underlined Trump’s concern on preventing another world war, stating, “We also hear his pronouncements about the need to do all possible to avoid World War III. We certainly applaud such an approach and congratulate the newly elected president of the United States.”
An forthcoming practice in New York will take place at the Stratton Air National Guard Base, Albany International Airport, and sections of northern Saratoga County. Sarah Ruane, FBI Albany Public Affairs Officer, claimed that “This is an exercise of the National Technical Nuclear Forensics Ground Collection Task Force, which would support the investigation of a nuclear incident.”
She went on: “The Task Force mission is to collect nuclear debris samples for analysis at the national laboratories.”
