According to court documents, the 38-year-old Texas mother, later identified as GIoria, was sentenced to 50 years in prison after pleading guilty to causing serious bodily injury by omission in connection with her child’s death.
Prosecutors allege that the defendant allowed her husband, 34-year-old Briian, to beat her child, Kenndrick, to death before forcing her other three children to live with the victim’s decomposing body for more than one year.
After being found guilty of first-degree murder, the defendant’s partner was given a life sentence without the chance of parole.
The 38-year-old mother reportedly told the court before her sentencing that she felt bad about letting her kids live with her dead child’s body, but she did it to keep them away from her husband.
Prosecutors said during the sentencing that even though she “questioned her partner’s abuse toward her children, she still showed her love for him.”
A sibling of the victim called 911 in 2021 and said that he and his younger siblings had been living with their dead sibling for a year. This was the start of the investigation.
While the police were investigating, they found that the mother’s husband had killed the boy by beating him, then leaving the apartment and covering his body with a blanket.
When they moved to a new apartment, they left the woman’s three kids with the body of a sibling.
Investigators heard from the victim’s brother that he saw her mom’s husband beat their brother so badly that his eyes stopped blinking. When police went to the house after the victim’s sibling called 911, they only found the boy’s bones.
