Many Americans were looking forward to getting their Social Security checks on October 1, but the US Government will not be sending out any checks on this second Wednesday of the month. Because of this, the new retirement checks cannot be collected today.
For the same reason, it does not matter what kind of benefit we have, when we were born, when we leave, or how much we get each month. We will not get a Social Security check today because of those things because there are no benefit payments being sent today.
Why are there no Social Security payments this October?
It is the second Wednesday of October 2024, so there are not any payments. This is because all payments for the month have been made on time.
So, there are no payments today because, unless something goes wrong, there are never any payments planned for the second of the month.
So, we will have to wait a little longer to get one of the new payments, since the first payment day for the whole month of October is October 3rd. However, this is not true for Supplemental Security Income payments. It is only true for disability and retirement payouts.
Supplemental Security Income (SSI) checks are already being sent to US people who get this benefit and have set up Direct Deposit. If this way of collection has not been set up yet, you will have to wait a few days before you can get your monthly check.
But because of these issues, the Social Security Administration is not giving out new checks today. This means that retirees will not get a new payment today and will have to wait at least until tomorrow to get a new benefit.
Full Social Security payment schedule for October
In October, we should look at the full schedule of Social Security payments so that we can better manage our household funds. We can see at a look what time of the month this check will be available.
Here are the days in October when you can get your Social Security payment:
- October 1. October supplemental income payment.
- October 3. Social Security for retirees with a benefit prior to May 1997.
- October 9. Social Security for retirees with a benefit after May 1997. Also mandatory between the 1st and 10th of the month.
- October 16. Social Security for retirees with a benefit after May 1997. Also due between the 11th and 20th of the month.
- October 23, Social Security for retirees with benefits after May 1997. Also due between the 21st and 31st of the month.
We will know when the Social Security Administration sends checks because of this calendar, but not when the money will be ready.
Our payment method, Direct Deposit, must be turned on in order to get this information; otherwise, we will have to wait a few more days.
