The federal agency that gives monthly benefits to retirees, survivors, disabled people, and people who get Supplemental Security Income (SSI) has confirmed that SSI recipients will get three times as much money by December 31st.
This means that people who get SSI will get three payments: two in November and one early on December 31st.
So, whether you already get Social Security payments or want to apply for any of the SSA’s financial or insurance programs, keep reading to find out more about the upcoming payments and what you need to do to get them every month.
Social Security confirmed a triple SSI payment by December 31st
More than 70 million checks are sent out every month by the Social Security Administration to people who get benefits from the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Retirement, Survivor, and Disability Insurance (RSDI) programs.
Because of this, the SSA made an annual payment schedule so that all beneficiaries would know exactly when they would get their benefits throughout the year.
Here are the main things you need to know about this Social Security payment schedule to know when you will get these benefits:
- If you qualify for the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program, you will usually receive your benefits on the first day of every month, unless it falls on a holiday or weekend. Whenever this occurs, the federal agency will reschedule the payment for the previous business day.
- If you qualify for the retirement, survivor, and disability insurance (RSDI) program and you claimed benefits before May 1997, you will receive your benefits always on the third day of the month, unless it falls on a federal holiday or during the weekend.
- If you qualify for the RSDI program but claimed benefits after May 1997, you will receive your benefits on a staggered payment methodology as detailed here:
- If you were born between the 1st and the 10th, you will get your Social Security check on the second Wednesday of every month.
- If you were born between the 11th and the 20th, you will get your Social Security check on the third Wednesday of every month.
- If you were born between the 21st and the 31st, you will get your Social Security check on the fourth Wednesday of every month.
Because of these factors, people who get SSI will get three times as much money before the end of the year. This is mostly because some payment dates are on weekends or federal holidays. To help you understand better, here is the full payment schedule:
SSI payments | SSI payments date | Advanced payment |
September | – | – |
October | October 1st | – |
November | November 1st | November 29th (December 1st) |
December | – | December 31st (January 1st) |
You can see People who get Supplemental Security Income will get three times as much money from November 1st to December 31st. Two of these payments will happen in November, since the regular payment is due on the first of the month.
However, because December 1st is a holiday, the SSA will move that payment to November 29th, which is the previous business day. For the same reason, people who get SSI at the end of the year will get an extra payment because January 1 is a holiday.
Because of this, beneficiaries will not only get one payment early, but they will also be the first beneficiaries to get the 2025 increased SSI payment. So, on December 31, people who get SSI will get an average of $967 instead of $943.
Taking into account the cost of living adjustment (COLA) of 2.5% for 2025, here are all the SSI payment amounts that these people can get:
SSI benefits | Social Security checks | 2.5% COLA increase | Extra income |
On average | $698 | $715 | $17 |
Individuals | $943 | $967 | $24 |
Couples | $1,415 | $1,450 | $35 |
Essential person | $472 | $484 | $12 |
