Baton Rouge, LA – The National Weather Service warns of severe winter weather in Louisiana from Monday to Thursday. Snow accumulations of more than one inch, ice, subfreezing temperatures, and dangerous wind chills are expected.
The Louisiana State Police (LSP) advises drivers to stay informed about weather and road conditions before traveling. Bridges and overpasses may become dangerous under these conditions.
If conditions worsen, officials advise against traveling until roads improve. LSP will collaborate with the Department of Transportation and local law enforcement to address hazards.
For road closures, go to 511la.org or download the Louisiana 511 app. Troopers will patrol the roads to assist stranded motorists and monitor conditions.
Drivers should avoid unnecessary travel, slow down, and keep a safe distance. Avoid using cruise control on icy roads, anticipate stops, and brake gently. Look out for black ice, particularly on bridges and in shaded areas.
Driving around barricades is illegal and can result in fines of up to $500 or 30 days in jail. Report any hazardous situations to LSP at *LSP (*577) or call 911.
