Cheyenne, Wyoming – A winter weather advisory is in effect for parts of Wyoming until Saturday morning. Residents and visitors should plan for snow, strong winds, and difficult conditions.
The National Weather Service (NWS) predicts snow accumulation of up to 8 inches in the North Laramie Range.
Strong winds of up to 45 mph can create hazardous conditions, particularly for hunters, hikers, and snowmobilers. The advisory was issued at 8 a.m. on Friday and will remain in effect until 5 a.m. Saturday.
The South Laramie Range and surrounding foothills will receive 2 to 4 inches of snow, with wind gusts reaching 50 mph.
Reduced visibility and slick roads may complicate travel, especially on Friday evening commutes. Interstate 80, including the areas near the summit between Cheyenne and Laramie, is expected to be significantly impacted.
Blowing snow in the North Snowy Range Foothills and Snowy Range will also create hazardous travel conditions. Hikers and outdoor enthusiasts are advised to be prepared as visibility may suddenly drop.
The NWS recommends driving slowly and with extra caution. Call 511 or visit state transportation websites to find out about Wyoming’s road conditions.
This storm poses risks to those who are unprepared for winter weather. If you intend to be outdoors, make sure you have the proper gear and a reliable navigation method to avoid getting lost in low visibility.
