October retirement checks have already been sent in full to people in the United States who are eligible for Social Security.
When it comes to the October checks, however, the new year has not yet started. Because of this, Americans who are looking for a retirement check might be getting it soon.
To find out if we will get the new Social Security payment in our bank account, all we have to do is look at the necessary steps. There are different rules for each day of retirement payments.
Checking the schedule of payments and standards will give us enough information to know if the next day of collection will work for us.
Next Social Security payment and its requirements
When the October 2024 payment plan goes live, group 1 will be the first group of Social Security retirees to get their money.
To get into group 1, you only need to meet one requirement. However, if you want to get paid on the same day you send the money, you need to meet an extra requirement.
The due date is October 3rd. And these things must be true for us to get the payment on the same day, October 3, 2024:
- Have a Social Security benefit since before May 1997.
- Activate Direct Deposit as a collection method.
We only need to do this last thing if we want to get the benefit money the same day it is sent. As long as this way of collection is not turned on, the payment will arrive one of the days after the transfer.

Last but not least, keep in mind that all benefits will be sent to the heirs’ checking account.
In other words, it does not matter if our check is for retirement because we are old, disabled, or something else. Most of the time, it is enough that the payment was accepted before May 1997.
But it is also important to remember that the amount does not change the day of collection. In other words, Social Security will still give us the check today even if we have the maximum payment of $4,873 or a much smaller check.
This is because we have met the established requirement.
