HALFTIME THOUGHTS: UTSA Leads #24 Houston 14-7

The first half has lived up to the hype so far. Both teams have traded punches and it has been a slugfest through two quarters.

After a defensive first quarter that ended 0-0, Houston started the second quarter by finishing off an 11-play, 58-yard drive with a Clayton Tune touchdown pass to Nathaniel Dell. UTSA answered with two explosive touchdowns of its own to take a 14-7 lead into the locker room.

Despite the roster turnover in the secondary, the Roadrunners are holding up extremely well. They have limited Houston to just seven points and 59 yards through the air. The front seven has also been effective, causing a lot of discomfort in the pocket for Tune.
Frank Harris has been the MVP so far, using his legs to avoid pressure and extend drives. Both touchdowns came off Harris’ ability to avoid the sack. He scored one on his own by scrambling for a 38-yard touchdown and was able to utilize his legs to find Joshua Cephus for a 51-yard touchdown to give the Runners the lead.

UTSA’s adjusted, up-tempo offense seems to give Houston’s defense fits. We will see what kind of adjustments Houston can make to avoid the upset in this one.
