The Poll of Death — Week 14

Rivalry week caused some MAJOR changes in the Poll of Death as we finished up the regular season and move into conference championship week.

1. Georgia

Win vs. Georgia Tech 37-14.

Georgia ends the regular season on top. Three more wins and the Bulldogs are our national champs.

2. Michigan

Win vs. No. 2 Ohio State 45-23.

The Wolverines showed that they’re still the team to beat in the Big Ten after pummeling Ohio State in the Shoe. They do have to watch out for the Spoilermakers next week, however.

3. South Carolina

Win vs. No. 13 Clemson 31-30.

The Gamecocks do it again! Spencer Rattler has been absolutely on fire after not being too great for the nine games prior. Smoking a cigar after the win was a choice, but hey good for him and go Cocks. They deserve this spot.

4. USC

Win vs. No. 4 Notre Dame 38-27.

The Trojans knock their rival Irish out of the poll completely and claim a top spot in the poll. Caleb Williams proved he’s far and away the best player in college football this week. The Heisman is a lock for him.

5. Tennessee

Win vs. No. 5 Vanderbilt 56-0.

The Commodores had a fleeting but beautiful run in this poll. It was only a matter of time before they lost and it was at the hands of Joe Milton and the Volunteers. A week after losing their No. 3 spot, Tennessee claims No. 5.

6. South Alabama

Win vs. Old Dominion 27-20.

It’s a real shame the 10-2 Jaguars won’t play for the Sun Belt title because of a loss to Troy, but I’m happy they keep their top 10 spot.

7. Texas A&M

Win vs. No. 7 LSU 38-23.

This season was a downer for Aggies fans. Not a lot of good happened to them this year, but hey, keep your heads high. You finished the season with the No. 7 spot in the Poll of Death.

8. Ohio State

Loss vs. No. 8 Michigan 45-23.

Woof. The Buckeyes swap spots with Michigan with the loss.

9. TCU

Win vs. Iowa State 62-14.

Hypnotoad lives on! The Horned Frogs finish the regular season 12-0 and play for the Big 12 Championship this week.

10. Washington

Win vs. No. 11 Washington State 51-33.

What a year for Michael Penix Jr. The Huskies are on Rose Bowl watch.

11. Washington State

Loss vs. No. 10 Washington 51-33.

The Cougars stay put because of the loss to a higher-ranked team.

12. Texas

Win vs. Baylor 38-27.

13. Clemson

Loss vs. No. 3 South Carolina 31-30.

I think it’s time for the Cade Klubnik era to begin. The Tigers stay put because of the loss to a higher-ranked team.

14. Oregon State

Win vs. No. 14 Oregon 38-34.

What a comeback from the Beavers. Watch out for the squad next season. They’ll be legit.

15. Arizona

Win vs. Arizona State 38-35.

Good for the Wildcats finishing the year ranked.

16. Missouri

Win vs. No. 20 Arkansas 29-27.

17. Alabama

Win vs. Auburn 49-27.

If this team makes the playoff, I will riot.

18. Utah

Win vs. Colorado 63-21.

19. Army

Win vs. UMass 44-7.

20. Arkansas

Loss vs. No. 16 Missouri 29-27.

Ughhhh. The Razorbacks stay put because of the loss to a higher-ranked team. Help us bowl season. You’re our only hope.

21. Florida State

Win vs. No. 21 Florida 45-38.

The Seminoles were bound to find themselves ranked this year. Mike Norvell and Jordan Travis had themselves a very solid season.

22. Kentucky

Win vs. No. 22 Louisville 26-13.

The Wildcats find themselves back in the poll thanks to the stellar play of future top draft pick Will Levis (that was sarcasm).

23. Navy

BYE.

24. Kansas State

Win vs. Kansas 47-27.

25. Texas Tech

OT Win vs. No. 25 Oklahoma 51-48.

This has to be at least the eighth time No. 25 has changed hands.

Teams that left the Poll of Death in Week 14: Notre Dame, Vanderbilt, LSU, Oregon, Florida, Oklahoma

I'm a Penn State grad with a degree in Film Production, pursuing my Master’s in Journalism. There’s nothing better than a 14-7 B1G game in 30° weather. I love Penn State football way too much, and I believe that you could be a better head coach than James Franklin. I don’t have many good CFB memories, but my least favorites are when Ohio State ripped my heart out in front of my face in 2017 and ‘18.
