The Poll of Death — Week 2 Rankings

Welcome back to the Poll of Death! Last year we saw a lot of chaos. Western Kentucky finished the season at No. 6, a 6-6 Texas A&M team was No. 7, and Fresno State was sitting just outside the top 10 at No. 11. Georgia came out on top as the PoD National Champion. If you’re new here or just need a refresher on how the poll works, here are the rules.

  • If a ranked team loses to an unranked team, they swap positions.
  • If a higher ranked team loses to a lower ranked team, they swap positions.
  • If a lower ranked team loses to a higher ranked team, their positions stay the same. A team’s ranking cannot be lowered if they lose to a ranked team no matter how badly they lose.

The first week is based off of the Week 1 AP Poll and is adjusted accordingly.

1. Georgia

48-7 win over UT Martin.

2. Michigan

30-3 win over East Carolina.

3. Ohio State

23-3 win over Indiana. The Buckeyes pulled it out but YEESH.

4. Alabama

56-7 win over Middle Tennessee.

5. Florida State

45-24 win over No. 5 LSU. The first movement of the poll! The Seminoles absolutely beat down Brian Kelly’s Tigers and deservedly moved up.

6. USC

66-14 win over Nevada.

7. Penn State

38-15 win over West Virginia.

8. LSU

45-24 loss to No. 8 Florida State. The Tigers swap with FSU because of the loss.

9. Duke

28-7 win over No. 9 Clemson. The Blue Devils jump into the top 10! The Dabo reign of terror in the Poll of Death has finally come to an end!

10. Washington

56-19 win over Boise State.

11. Texas

37-10 win over Rice. A very interesting game with huge poll implications in Tuscaloosa next week.

12. Tennessee

49-13 win over Virginia.

13. Notre Dame

56-3 win over Tennessee State.

14. Utah

24-11 win over Florida.

15. Oregon

81-7 win over Portland State. Poor Puddles. He did so many pushups.

16. Kansas State

45-0 win over Southeast Missouri State.

17. Colorado

45-42 win over No. 17 TCU. In the best game of the weekend, Coach Prime and the Buffs make an immediate impact in the poll! It’s going to be very interesting to see how they impact the rankings every week.

18. Oregon State

42-17 win over San José State

19. Wisconsin

38-17 win over Buffalo.

20. Oklahoma

73-0 win over Arkansas State.

21. North Carolina

31-17 win over South Carolina. I really thought the Gamecocks would jump into this spot, but woof that o-line.

22. Ole Miss

73-7 win over Mercer.

23. Texas A&M

52-10 win over New Mexico.

24. Tulane

37-17 win over South Alabama

25. Iowa

24-14 win over Utah State. I really don’t think the Hawkeyes will last too long here.

I'm a Penn State grad with a degree in Film Production, pursuing my Master’s in Journalism. There’s nothing better than a 14-7 B1G game in 30° weather. I love Penn State football way too much, and I believe that you could be a better head coach than James Franklin. I don’t have many good CFB memories, but my least favorites are when Ohio State ripped my heart out in front of my face in 2017 and ‘18.
