While You Were Sleeping: Week 10 Late Game Recaps

There was no #HawaiiTest as the Rainbow Warriors had played earlier in the day, but Week 10’s late night games had a little bit of everything. There was wackiness in Boulder, explosive plays by a Fresno State running back, and a classic #Pac12AfterDark desert upset. It was fun to end the night with a field storming to cap a wildly entertaining weekend in college football.

No. 16 Oregon State 26, Colorado 19

On Friday, it was reported that Deion Sanders had demoted offensive coordinator Sean Lewis from play-calling duties. The result was Colorado not reaching 100 yards on offense until late in the third quarter and a total of 238 yards. Lewis had coached the team to an average of 408 yards per game through eight games. Meanwhile, Oregon State was nothing special on offense but did what it needed to. That includes this ridiculous pass by DJ Uiagalelei:

Aidan Chiles also came in and ran for a touchdown, showing once again the Beavers’ future at quarterback is bright. As for Colorado, Travis Hunter had a touchdown catch from 15 yards out. A late 12-yard touchdown catch by Anthony Hankerson made it close late, but with the 100th-ranked rush defense, the Buffaloes kicked it deep. Even with three timeouts, it was a losing decision as Oregon State easily got a first down and sealed the win.

At least the Buffaloes had one of the strangest plays of the day, which was perfect for the sickos hours of the night:

Fresno State 37, Boise State 30

The first half of this Mountain West matchup was close until Malik Sherrod gave Fresno State a jolt going into halftime:

That helped a hurting Mikey Keene, who was battling through various ailments. Despite all of that, Keene was in command all evening. He threw a touchdown on the opening drive and finished with 290 yards. However, Maddux Madsen was running and chucking the ball all over the field. His 27-yard touchdown run put Boise State within three points with under five minutes left.

On Fresno State’s drive, on a third-and-7, Keene fought through various injuries to complete a pass to Jaelen Gill for a crucial first down with 2:42 to go. Keene reached for his throwing shoulder after the play. A few plays later, Sherrod put the game on ice by racing 52 yards to put his team up 10.

Boise State tacked on a late field goal, but the onside kick was recovered by the Bulldogs.

Arizona 27, No. 19 UCLA 10

All night, UCLA’s offense looked out of sync. As the game went along, both Ethan Garbers and Dante Moore went to the locker room with injuries. Even before that, the two had combined for only 157 yards and one touchdown through the air on 17-of-28 passing. Meanwhile, UCLA’s usually stout defense allowed 429 total yards to Arizona.

For the Wildcats’ offense, Noah Fifita continued to ball out, throwing for a nice round 300 yards on 25-of-32 passing with three touchdowns, including this stunning touchdown by Tetairoa McMillan:

With the win, the Wildcats reached bowl eligibility for the first time since 2017 under Rich Rodriguez
