Liam Blutman’s Top 10 + A Few – Week 10

Week 9 was one of the slower weeks of the season. That’s okay though! Let me just rattle off my top 10 teams in the country and a few others real quick before you sleep or go watch the NFL or whatever it is you’re doing depending on when you’re reading this…

1. Tennessee (LW – 2)

Yeah… this is where we are now. Kentucky was mad overrated in my opinion, but who cares. Tennessee dismantled the Wildcats in every facet of the sport and shut up all the haters who said the Vols secondary can’t play ball. They had Will Levis seeing ghosts just a few days before Halloween and they deserve to be the top ranked team in the nation right now. Put some more respect on Alex Golesh too. What a bright future he’s got. All eyes on the clash at Georgia on Nov. 5. Buckle up.

2. Ohio State (LW – 1)

The Buckeyes did pick up a quality road win at Penn State and it was definitely not pretty. Ryan Day’s play-calling in big games is less than ideal and that’s a massive issue with this team. Outside of his sus play-calling, this team is unreal. We just witnessed an all-time performance from J.T. Tuimoloau. Marvin Harrison Jr. gets better and better by the snap… the Buckeyes are so scary. They’ll play at Northwestern next week.

3. Alabama (LW – 3)

Alabama was on a bye week and all that stuff. Don’t embarrass me by losing at LSU next week. I believe in you and your squad Nick Saban, aight?

4. TCU (LW – 6)

I’ve said it many times before. I’m no coward. TCU continues to impress in so many ways as it picked up a decent road win at West Virginia in what was certainly a trap game. My favorite thing about this team is how Sonny Dykes and Garrett Riley adapt on the fly and scheme up extremely advantageous concepts for the Horned Frogs offense. They are never out of a game with this big-time offense and these quality coaches. This team has no fear and I certainly have zero fear by bravely ranking TCU at No. 4. The Horned Frogs host Texas Tech next week. In Hypnotoad we trust.

5. Georgia (LW – 5)

Last year doesn’t matter to me. Preseason rankings mean nothing to me. The Bulldogs could easily make the College Football Playoff and everything. I’m not saying they won’t or can’t. I just want them to earn my ranking first. Georgia has left me unimpressed way too many times this season since the Oregon win, and Stetson Bennett’s performance against Florida left so much to be desired. The Bulldogs will be a touchdown or more of a favorite vs. Tennessee next week. Will the Dawgs come away with another statement victory?

6. Clemson (LW – 4)

Yeah… I don’t love dropping Clemson two spots after a bye. However, it’s not a big deal. The Tigers are still gunning for a playoff spot, and I’m rather confident they will make it there.

7. Michigan (LW – 7)

Everybody hates me for my Michigan ranking. Every single week. There’s nothing I can do about it. This was an ugly rivalry win over Michigan State. The red-zone offense was absolutely anemic. This team still goes 11-1 with a loss to Ohio State. A successful season. A massive road trip to Rutgers is up next.

8. Oregon (LW – 8)

Congrats to Oregon on not falling flat after the big win over UCLA with College GameDay in Autzen. It’s a fine win at Cal; the Ducks did what they needed to do. The Ducks will quack a whole lot more at Colorado next week before hosting Washington and Utah in back-to-back games.

9. USC (LW -10)

On paper, USC got a decent win at Arizona. In reality, it’s a solid win as the Trojans got it done without Jordan Addison, Andrew Vorhees, Eric Gentry, Ralen Goforth, and Korey Foreman. Plenty of key names missing but USC walks away with the W. That’s what truly matters. We’ll see how this lethal offense led by Caleb Williams looks next week vs. Cal. All eyes are on the showdown vs UCLA on Nov. 19

10. Kansas State (LW – 18)

Kansas State’s beatdown of Oklahoma State was NSFW. This game should NOT have been televised. Both teams were banged up but the final result is a shocker nonetheless. Nobody saw this coming. Will Howard is gunning for the QB1 job and truthfully I’d give it to him. Howard gives this offense a real passing attack that Big 12 defenses fear. K-State hosts Texas next week in what will be another gargantuan clash in the Big 12.

And a sneak peek at some notables in my top 25…

12. LSU (LW – 16)

Hmm. If LSU manages to upset Alabama. How high will the famuhlee jump?

23. Illinois (LW – NR)

Okay. I did it. I ranked Illinois. Are you happy? Don’t lose to Michigan State next week, okay?

25. Boise State (LW – NR)

Boise State finally looks like the quality team I expected it to be. And it’s all because of an OC change and the switch to Taylen Green at quarterback. The Broncos get BYU next.

I am a diehard UCLA fan that has enjoyed (?) mediocrity year after year. My favorite CFB moment was witnessing UCLA comeback from 34 down against Texas A&M. Being at the Rose Bowl for that historic moment is something I’ll never forget. I have written about CFB since I was 14 and my favorite thing to do is give under-the-radar athletes the recognition they deserve. You might know me from @NoContextCFB !
