Mapping Out Your College Football Weekend: Week 10

We’re back! After a few weeks off for personal reasons, I’m happy to be back with a MOYCFW for you for the biggest week of the season so far.

Saturday is a righteous slate, the kind of week that reminds us why we do this. I hope you have cleared out all obligations — no more apple orchards, no chores around the house, no waaaaaay-too-early Friendsgivings or waaaaay-too-late Halloweens. This is a 12 hours straight, butt-imprint on the couch, two different delivery orders kind of Saturday.

It starts with a good noon slate with a Big 12 headliner, goes right into a midday window with a few upset possibilities, and then rolls into a loaded primetime window. The late night slot has some good spots, too.

We have a Heisman showdown in Los Angeles, SEC semifinals, Group of Five intrigue, and Big 12 separators. November is starting in style.

Below, I’ve listed the nationally-televised games, sorted by viewing window for you to keep track. All times are Eastern, because, well, duh. Included is each team’s rank in Bill Connelly’s preseason SP+ rankings to give you a sense of the matchup.

Let’s map it out for Week 10!

Friday:

Princeton (FCS) at Dartmouth (FCS) – 7 PM on ESPNU

Boston College (81) at Syracuse (65) – 7:30 PM on ESPN

Colorado State (106) at Wyoming (91) – 8 PM on CBS Sports Network

Friday night’s slate is testing the limits of the “all college football is good college football” theory. At least the Mountain West game is a historic rivalry.

Saturday Noon:

Arkansas (48) at Florida (35) – 12 PM on ESPN2

Arkansas is eliminated from bowl game contention with a loss. Florida just needs one more win to clinch a bowl spot, but after this, its final three games are against teams ranked in the top 15 of the College Football Playoff rankings.

Campbell (FCS) at North Carolina (22) – 12 PM on ACCN

Jacksonville State (88) at South Carolina (60) – 12 PM on ESPNU

Rich Rodriguez has earned a few career wins against Beamer — Frank, that is. He will go for one against Shane in the battle of the Gamecocks.

Kansas State (13) at Texas (5) – 12 PM on Fox

The first of many marquee matchups on this week’s slate, featuring two of the Big 12’s four teams tied atop the standings at 4-1. The Longhorns will again be starting backup Maalik Murphy, and he better be sharp or else the Arch Manning whispers will turn into howls.

Nebraska (51) at Michigan State (74) – 12 PM on FS1

This is the Traditional Unwatchable Big Ten Network Noon Game of the Week, presented by FS1.

Notre Dame (9) at Clemson (21) – 12 PM on ABC

Ohio State (3) at Rutgers (50) – 12 PM on CBS

Rutgers has an opportunity to do the funniest thing in history…..

Texas A&M (17) at Ole Miss (16) – 12 PM on ESPN

Lane Kiffin is 2-0 so far against Jimbo Fisher’s Aggies during his stint in Oxford, and the SEC’s preeminent troll loves to poke the bear. We love an SP+ neighbors matchup, don’t we folks?

UConn (128) at Tennessee (15) – 12 PM on SECN

The New York Times 2020 National Champions have had a rough go of it this season and have fallen into the bottom five teams in the country. They will be in for a long day in Knoxville against a Tennessee team sharpening up for looming showdowns against Missouri and Georgia.

Wisconsin (27) at Indiana (95)  – 12 PM on BTN

Saturday Midday:

Arizona State (79) at Utah (26) – 2 PM on Pac-12 Network

Georgia Tech (73) at Virginia (85) – 2 PM on The CW

Air Force (30) vs. Army (110) – 3:30 PM on CBS Sports Network

Air Force has a chance to complete the Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy sweep for the second year in a row and should be able to win this easily. This is one of the better service academy squads of recent years, and Army has lost five games in a row and the new shotgun offense is on life support.

Florida State (8) at Pittsburgh (67) – 3:30 PM on ESPN

This is the “Do You Wanna See a Dead Body?” Game of the Week.

Illinois (62) at Minnesota (49) – 3:30 PM on BTN

James Madison (39) at Georgia State (72) – 3:30 PM on ESPN2

Missouri (20) at Georgia (2) – 3:30 PM on CBS

The Missouri Tigers, the official team of MOYCFW, are playing their biggest game in a decade as they head to Athens to take on the back-to-back defending national champions. Missouri is a two-touchdown underdog for a reason: while Georgia has looked sleepy at times this season, it has come alive in its two biggest contests so far. Missouri has a few matchups it will look to exploit and ride an efficient pass game; the best player on the field might be Luther Burden III, Mizzou’s star wide receiver who is all that and a bag of chips.

Oklahoma (11) at Oklahoma State (33) – 3:30 PM on ABC

About a month ago, Mike Gundy decided to stop messing around. He reshuffled the offensive line, ended the ill-fated three-quarterback experiment, and decided to start feeding Ollie Gordon II the rock. A lot. The results have been undeniable, as Oklahoma State has surged from being a team that struggled with Central Arkansas and lost to South Alabama to one that is in the thick of the Big 12 title race. Good timing, too, as now the archrival Sooners come to town for possibly the last Bedlam ever. I’m sure they will meet again in like, 2032 or something when they realize it’s really stupid not to play each other, but whatever. This is the last one, I guess. Enjoy it.

Penn State (10) at Maryland (31)  – 3:30 PM on Fox

Tulane (42) at East Carolina (117) – 3:30 PM on ESPNU

Is the Mike Houston pirate ship sinking? This season has been dreadful for ECU after a 2022 campaign with unfulfilled promise. Might be time for a new era.

UCF (41) at Cincinnati (75) – 3:30 PM on FS1

Virginia Tech (59) at Louisville (24) – 3:30 PM on ACCN

Virginia Tech has been surprisingly competent of late. The defense is into the top 40 of SP+, and the offense is not completely miserable now that Kyron Drones has taken over quarterback duties full-time.

Auburn (43) at Vanderbilt (100) – 4 PM on SECN

Saturday Primetime:

California (66) at Oregon (4) – 5:30 PM on Pac-12 Network

While there is beautiful crisp autumn weather across most of the country, there will be sloppy, rainy weather all weekend in the Pacific Northwest this weekend. I know some of you sickos like that shit.

Louisiana Tech (105) at Liberty (46) – 6 PM on CBS Sports Network

Marshall (89) at Appalachian State (86) – 6 PM on NFL Network

This was a heated rivalry for a few decades back in the Division 1-AA Southern Conference era. It’s been revitalized now in the Sun Belt, and with both teams grasping for bowl eligibility, it could start heating up again.

BYU (63) at West Virginia (56) – 6 PM on FS1

Kansas (38) at Iowa State (37) – 7 PM on ESPN

More SP+ neighbors!

Utah State (99) at San Diego State (104) – FS2

This is the Petros Papadakis Game.

Kentucky (25) at Mississippi State (58) – 7:30 PM on SECN

Purdue (82) at Michigan (1) – 7:30 PM on NBC

I’m worried about Connor Stalions. Not just because of the unhinged priorities that it takes for someone to craft a 500+ page manifesto, but man, that guy has taken in a LOT of Big Ten football. Far more than the surgeon general’s recommended serving.

SMU (40) at Rice (97) – 7:30 PM on ESPNU

Should be a track meet.

Washington (7) at USC (14) – 7:30 PM on ABC

Will be a track meet.

LSU (12) at Alabama (6) – 7:45 PM on CBS

Might secretly turn into a track meet? That’s what LSU will want to do, anyway. Alabama will want to slow this game into a sludge.

Miami (23) at NC State (52) – 8 PM on ACCN

Saturday Late Night:

Stanford (102) at Washington State (44) – 9 PM on Pac-12 Network

Boise State (55) at Fresno State (47)  – 10 PM on CBS Sports Network

A rematch of last year’s Mountain West title game, and probably a play-in to determine who gets to face Air Force this year. Boise State was uninspiring in the early part of the season but came alive last week against Wyoming out of the bye. Will the Broncos surge down the stretch? They followed a similar path last season.

Oregon State (18) at Colorado (77) – 10 PM on ESPN

UCLA (19) at Arizona (32) – 10:30 PM on FS1

Geez, I take like three weeks off and Arizona shoots up in Bill C’s numbers. I’ve almost exclusively been writing numbers that start with 7 and 8 next to Arizona since I started doing this in 2021. Good on you, Wildcats.
