Rising Star: Georgia Tech RB Jahmyr Gibbs

Electric. That is the word that best describes Jahmyr Gibbs, a stud running back at Georgia Tech who is set to impress big time.

When people talk about the best RB’s in the country, Gibbs is never mentioned. Ask me this question and I’ll tell you straight up, Jahmyr Gibbs is one of the premier backs in the nation.

In his freshman season, Gibbs exploded onto the national scene instantly. In his first career game, which came against UCF, Gibbs ran for 66 yards and a touchdown, as well as accumulating 60 yards and a touchdown in the receiving game.

In his seven games in 2020, he ran for 460 yards and four touchdowns on 89 carries and added 24 catches for 303 yards and three touchdowns. It’s a solid opening campaign for him to build off of. I truly believe you’re going to see a spectacular sophomore season from Jahmyr Gibbs, one that cements himself as one of the top RB prospects in the sport, one that electrifies the college football world.

Jahmyr Gibbs is a freak athlete. His footwork is sensational, and it’s only going to improve. The way he moves laterally is super impressive to me as well, and he can run north/south and east/west with ease. As I’ve told you, he is electric, so it should be no surprise that Gibbs explosiveness is wicked! This kid has exquisite burst!

Perhaps his best trait is his pass catching ability. It’s 2021, your RB’s need to catch the ball, and while a good bit struggle with this part of the game, it’s super easy for Jahmyr. He runs routes so crisp and catches the ball better than plenty of receivers. Just good, sound technique and understanding of the receiving game.

It’s not a second language to him; it’s just another first language which he speaks so fluently. As both a runner and a receiver, Jahmyr Gibbs is a deadly weapon.

It’s very important that I stress the importance of Gibbs in pass protection. He puts in a lot of effort to be good in pass pro, something a lot of backs refuse to do or simply struggle with. That is something that scouts will notice and his willingness to fight for his team in pass pro will do him wonders come draft season.

This 19-year-old has a super bright future. Trust me, Jahmyr Gibbs is going to be an absolute beast.

I am a diehard UCLA fan that has enjoyed (?) mediocrity year after year. My favorite CFB moment was witnessing UCLA comeback from 34 down against Texas A&M. Being at the Rose Bowl for that historic moment is something I’ll never forget. I have written about CFB since I was 14 and my favorite thing to do is give under-the-radar athletes the recognition they deserve. You might know me from @NoContextCFB !
