The Transfer Portal CFB Week 4 Top 25 Rankings

What was supposed to be a sleepy Saturday of college football turned into a trial by fire for the top teams in the country. Multiple ranked schools were on upset alert late into their games, with two eventually going down. Tennessee fell to the Florida Gators in the swamp, while Kansas State was shocked by Missouri on the road.

Two new teams have joined the rankings after strong starts to the season. The James Madison Dukes debut at No. 25 after a gritty Sun Belt win against Troy. Fresno State enters at No. 22 as the Bulldogs have started the season 3-0 with wins over two Power Five schools in non-conference play. These two replace Kansas and Tennessee, who fell after disappointing Week 3 performances.

There weren’t any huge movers in the rankings this week, as despite the scares, there weren’t many upsets. LSU makes the largest leap, going up four spots to No. 14 after an SEC win over Mississippi State. A few other teams moved up three spots, with both Oregon State and Duke claiming those honors after comfortable wins to continue their strong starts.

There were some massive slides within the rankings, due to a loss and some concerning performances. Kansas State’s upset loss saw it fall 11 spots to No. 23. Both teams from last week’s marquee matchup experienced a drop as well. Texas came out flat after its upset and let Wyoming stick around for too long, and the Longhorns fell two spots to No. 7. Alabama made a quarterback change and got more question marks, as it was tied with South Florida late into the second half. This led the Crimson Tide to drop five spots to No. 16.

Week 4 looks to be an absolute treat for college football fans everywhere. The afternoon slate has three ranked matchups, followed up by two more in the evening. In the afternoon, two ranked Pac-12 matchups kick off conference play. UCLA battles the Utah Utes, and the Colorado show heads to Oregon for its biggest test of the year. Alabama will also look to right the ship in an SEC showdown with Ole Miss. The evening kicks off with another Pac-12 duel, with Oregon State heading to Washington State. A bit later, the best matchup of the week sees two top 10 teams battle it out as Ohio State faces off against Notre Dame.

The back end of the rankings are a bit of a tight race, with six other teams receiving votes. Tennessee and Kansas both received votes to avoid completely dropping out of contention. Air Force, BYU, Clemson, and Missouri all received votes as well. For the second week, Georgia was not a unanimous number one, with both Michigan and Penn State earning consideration for the top spot.

I've been watching and betting on sports for as long as I legally could. My favorite college football memory is Tua coming in at halftime of the championship game to come back and lead Alabama to a national title.
